After graduating from a medical university, future dental students must pass an additional four years of dental practice at an accredited dental school. Fifty-six such schools are located in the USA. After completing dental school, future dentists must pass a national written examination which include two parts and practical state examination. After passing these examinations, students became dentists and they receive a license to practice. The biggest mass of graduated dentists begin their practice in general dentistry. Some dental practitioners complete specialized post-graduate training to get more advanced medical education in one or more narrow areas of dentistry.
